How to Find Free Excel Templates on Your Computer

Excel is an extremely useful program but it can be intimidating to people who have never created a spreadsheet or used it regularly.  The solution to this lack of experience is to us a template.  Templates are pre-formatted spreadsheets that you can download and use on your computer.  If you already have Excel, you already have access to this great free resource!

Excel 2007

Excel 2007 has templates located on your computer and ones that can be downloaded directly from Microsoft.com.

How to find free excel templates to your computer

To download templates directly to your computer, follow these steps:

• Select the Office Button and select New.
• Look on the left side of your new window screen until you see Microsoft Office Online.
• Click on the category that you are interest in (for example, budgets, calendar, etc)
• You will see templates appear for that category.
• Select the template that looks interesting to you.
• Click OK.

Once downloaded, this template can be modified, saved, and re-used as often as you need it.

Excel 2003

Excel 2003 has templates located on your computer and ones that can be downloaded directly from Microsoft.com.

Downloading templates to Your Computer

To download templates directly to your computer, follow these steps:

• Select File and then New.
• Look at the task pane on right of your workbook and type your criteria in the search online box.  (This works as long as you have an internet connection).
• Click Go and see the several templates it returns.
• Select the one you want to use and click on download.

Once downloaded, this template can be modified, saved, and re-used as often as you need it.
