The Student Yearly Reading Log Template is an easy to use document to track and/or plan a reading list. The downloadable template can be used by teachers, parents, or students themselves.
How to use the Student Yearly Reading Log Template
This one page Excel sheet is an effective tool to track a student’s reading progress, or plan a reading list. Designed to be customized, printed, and used by teachers or parents for school classrooms, homeschooling, and homework.
Used as a reading tracker:
To use this template to track a student’s reading throughout the year, use the sheet as is (deleting the examples first). Depending on the grade level, you can require an initial next to the book listed or delete that column for older grades.
Have the student fill in the book title and author through the year, and fill in the “Points Earned” column according to your class standards.
Used as a reading Planner
This template can double as a syllabus for the year’s reading requirements. As the example shows, fill in the book title and author for the required yearly reading in the order the books should be read. Then replace “Points Earned” with just “Points” to show how much each will be worth in the gradebook. Print and distribute the sheet to students at the beginning of the school year so they know what to read.
Tips for using the Student Yearly Reading Log
- Use Excel’s text color or text highlighting tool to color code any part of the sheet.
- Customize the template to have a “Test Taken” column instead of an “Initials” column if you are testing for each book read.
- Encourage students to read more than required by making this an extra credit worksheet. Each book read can be worth a certain amount of extra credit points.
